ReplyDeleteYou may want to change the color from Red for schools which requires an applicant to be state residents or change the color of other schools to, say, green. Hard to distinguish between red & maroon as it exists.
for programs that have two or three colleges that matriculate to one medical school, does it matter what undergraduate school I choose to apply to?
ReplyDeleteNot really. But different undergrad might have different focus. You would best increase your chances by applying to the one that suits you.
ReplyDeleteWent through this a couple of years ago for my child. Apply to as many as you can afford and that are at locations you can see yourself actually going to if accepted. Many have about a 5% acceptance rate like the ivies so the more you apply to the greater the chance of catching at least one. If you did not take physics Rensalear/AMC would be tough since it is for engineers. Consider`state schools and others that give real merit aid- sometimes even full ride for UG. A very few give aid for Medical school which very, very rare. No sense in haveing 80k or more UG debt then paying 30k -50k plus room and board for Med school per year on top of that. I know MD's who still have student loans after 20 years of paying. He is still paying off his note so he does not have a house yet.

ReplyDeleteThe TCNJ/UMDNJ program is open to everyone. Other schools are only for in state students.

I just have one question though: Is the University of Pittsburgh Guaranteed Admissions only available to in-state residents? That definitely is a possibility. This website is very well organized.
DeleteI love science and have an extremely strong background in it, but I don't have the "well-rounded" record (like participation in sports, etc.) that Ivies look for. I want to go to a BS/MD program, but I'm not sure if they would rather have me be spectacular in biology and spend my extracurricular time volunteering in a hospital or try to do everything. Any advice?

DeleteIt is really hard to say what would be a better bet at getting you into BS/MD programs (we're not the admissions committee or anything), so there is no definite answer. The only thing I can be sure of saying is that schools will really look at if you're truly, honestly passionate about what you're doing, regardless of what it is. If you spend all your time volunteering, then what did you get out of it? How did it change your life? If you spent all your EC time with sports, what did that teach you? Of course grades and GPA are important (that's kind of a separate area), but schools just want to see if you've spent your time developing your character and if you have what it takes to make (and last) through a rigorous program such as BS/MD programs.

I am not one of those students who is obsessed with Ivy League. But I've always wanted to study law, so I really want to attend Yale. The lowest gpa I've ever gotten on my report card is a 3.71. Out of the 7 classes I take in school, 6 of them are A.P. or honors. I am currently a sophmore in high school. I just want to know if I am still eligible to apply for an Ivy League school with my grades. It would help if you actually attended an Ivy League School. If you did, could you please write the name of the school you attended? Thanks

This is a nice list. Thank you. One problem though. While Indiana University doesn't have a 6 year (yet) Indiana STATE University does. There is a huge difference in prestige, cost, and quality. Indiana University is bigger and much better. Indiana University owns the majority of the hospitals in the state so they can get you where you want to go.

ReplyDeleteThe CNU BS/MD program is illegitimate for anyone who is wondering. The State of California and BPPE fined CNU for advertising the unapproved BS/MD program. In addition, 12 CNU BS/MD students were rejected even after receiving MCAT scores above 510 and GPA above 3.5. I would avoid that program if I was you. There is currently a lawsuit as well against the CNU BS/MD program for fraud (Anwar vs California Northstate University LLC)
